Split System AC Course
This two-day Split System Air Conditioning Course provides training and assessment for electricians and fourth-year electrical apprentices looking to meet the legislative requirements for a Restricted Split System Air Conditioning Refrigerant Handling Licence (ARCtick).
Students must be a qualified electrician or a fourth-year electrical apprentice to enrol.
This course contributes toward the nationally recognised qualification UEE20120 Certificate II in Split Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems.
The course is delivered in classroom and workshop/on-site environments, combining theory and practical components to meet the requirements of the units of competency. The course duration is two days.
NSW participants need to be aware that you cannot install split system ACs unless you have a Certificate III qualification. VIC participants need to be aware that they need a BPC license in addition to the ARC qualification. Call us to discuss before enrolling - 1800 059 170.

This course is specifically designed for those already working in the electrical industry, with class sizes limited to ensure quality training outcomes.

Licence Pathway
Upon successful completion, you may apply for a:

This licence allows you to:
- Legally handle refrigerant
- Install and decommission split system air conditioners
- Work on single head split systems under 18kWr cooling capacity
Entry Requirements
Who can enrol
Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship employment
To enrol in this course, students must:
- Be a qualified electrician, or
- Be a fourth-year electrical apprentice

What you need before training starts
Trainee licence requirement
- All students need a Trainee Licence (Classroom Only) before attending the course
- Under ARC regulations training cannot begin until the licence is sighted by your trainer
- SkillBuild can provide proof of enrolment for the application
ARC application needs
- A passport sized photo which needs to be certified
- Proof of enrolment
- Completion of the licence application before the course begins
Training cannot begin until the ARCtick Trainee Licence has been sighted by the trainer, so students should arrange this before attending.
Units of Competency
Units Included in this Course
This qualification consists of 11 units of competency. SkillBuild delivers training and assessment in the following three units. The remaining 8 units are completed through credit transfer, based on the student’s existing electrical qualification or apprenticeship training.
