A course for Auto Electricians and Mechanics who want to depower and repower Hybrid and Electrical Vehicles.

Course description
Skillbuild not only deliver courses in EV charging and maintenance and servicing, we have a workshop doing this work and our Electricians install EV charging.

This unit is delivered by a Trainer who is an Electrician and a Heavy Diesel Mechanic. The course covers safely depowering Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, doing servicing and then repowering the battery system. This Unit allows participants to access the manufacturers manuals through AASRA. You will work on an electric vehicle during the course.

Students with a pacemaker or other medical device susceptible to magnetic interference are not permitted to work on PEVs, HEVs, BEVs, PHEVs or FCEVs that contain powerful magnets capable of affecting those devices (AS5732:2022 (Sect 2.1)).

Duration – one day.

Cost - $850 no GST which includes a pair of 1000 volt rated insulated gloves.

The course delivers the following nationally accredited Unit of Competencies from the Automotive and Electrotechnology Training Packages;

• Safety working with high voltage DC – procedures, risk assessments and WH&S
• AS 5732:2022 – workshop requirements
• Batteries in Hybrid and EVs – chemistries, wiring and isolation and re-energising
• PPE requirements – gloves, arc flash clothing
• Basic electrical theory and testing procedures
• Low voltage rescue and CPR in the Auto Workshop
• EV components – sockets, inverter/converter, battery pack, controller, instruments
• Battery systems in EVs – depower and reinitialise
• Charging systems and charging options

• Venues – our Training Centres in Sydney, Albury, Brisbane, Darwin and Perth.
We can run this course anywhere in Australia if we have access to a workshop and training room and at least 8 participants
• 8 hours ‘face to face’
• Participants are provided with cotton inners, 1000 volt gloves and leather outers to keep
• Participants must wear long sleeves and trousers and steel capped boots

Due to the presence of magnets in motors, people with pacemakers cannot attend.
