This course is designed for licensed electricians and eligible final-year electrical apprentices who want to work in solar installation.

We assume that everyone is starting from scratch. If you have been installing with someone else, we use those students to do some ‘peer’ teaching, so all our students get a variety of views, not just ours.

Yes. We deliver the course over 4 days (8am-3pm NSW time) via Zoom. We all talk to each other; students can ask questions, and all assessments are completed within these three days. Then you must come to a practical day at one of our Centres. Most of the practicals are in Sydney, Albury, Perth, and occasionally Darwin, and they occur the week after the Zoom course.

We would respectfully suggest that you avoid these, as this work is complicated and uses another Standard. You really need someone to explain things, so doing this on your own is challenging. Coming home and studying after a day of work is hard work. Most people want to spend time with family or relax, not hit the books.

Bill started doing off grid installs in Bendigo in 1988. We were contractors in Alice Springs in 2010 and were doing grid connect installs. We set up the Registered Training Organisation to train our own 15 employees and then things took off. Still training with 6 Centres across Australia.

All our trainers are contractors and still installing. We are also Inspectors so have a lot of experience in this area.

This will only get bigger. In 2010, people were paying $14k for a 1.5 kW system. Panel costs have gone down by 90%, inverters by 50%. Given the cost of a Kwh is now anywhere between 40-60 cents the saving with solar are a ‘no brainer’. We prepare quotes in the course and calculate payback periods. Typically 3-4 years, when in 2010 it was 12 years!
